The name Nanahouse came from my little cousin when she was very young. Every time someone would say, "Let's go to Nana's house," she thought Nanahouse was actually my grandma's name. So one day she excitedly shouted, "Yay! We're going to Nanahouse's house!"From that moment on, the nickname stuck, and before long, our whole family was calling her Nanahouse.Over time, we realized it was the perfect name for her. My grandma wasn't just a person—she was a place of comfort. Wherever she was felt like home. She welcomed everyone with open arms, offered a listening ear, and filled every room with warmth, love, and acceptance.That's how my grandma became known as Nanahouse, and it's why we chose Nanahouse as the title of this book. We hope that as you read these pages, you'll experience a little of the same love, comfort, and sense of home that she gave to everyone around her.

Nanahouse is based on my grandmother.Maria Teresa EliasApril 25th 1952 - July 25th, 2020Maria Teresa Hernandez was born in El Paso, Texas. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, and great- grandmother. As a child, she moved from Texas to Wyoming and eventually to East Los Angeles, CA. She was one of ten children. As the eldest daughter, she often was the caretaker of the family to assist her mother who had a long, hard battle with cancer.Maria met the love of her life, Antonio Elias, at the age of 13. They later married and raised their three children in a small one and a half bedroom house in East Los Angeles. She became a grandmother in 1990. To date, she has 6 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, 6 bonus grandchildren and 17 bonus great-grandchildren. Maria and Antonio were married for 52 years before her passing.Maria loved helping others. She and her husband took in many families over the years. They housed them, fed them, and clothed them in their times of need. Her passion led her to land a career in EDD. There, she helped many individuals find work and gain work experience. She worked there for 32 years before retiring. However, her spirit of helping did not stop there. In her free time, she volunteered, donated, prayed, and served meals to the homeless.
